Course Information

Does your group have what it takes to survive like Bear Grylls?

Following the success of Bear’s TV shows, Man vs Wild, Running Wild and most recently Netflix's You Vs Wild, aspiring adventurers can challenge themselves on an extreme survival course in the Scottish Highlands. This five-day intense survival course follows similar formats of the TV shows. It begins with a crash three-day course in Bear's survival techniques and culminates in an epic self-rescue survival challenge. You will be pushed to the limit crossing difficult terrain and putting all your new found skills to the ultimate test in order to make your way back to civilisation.

Do you have what it takes to meet the challenge?

Starting at base camp in the heart of the Highlands, our highly trained and experienced Instructors will teach you Bear’s survival techniques.

This is an extreme environment like no other and perhaps one of the last remaining wilderness areas left in the UK. You will learn all the skills you have seen Bear demonstrate over the years, including his priorities of survival, skinning and gutting, fire lighting and emergency shelter building. However, it’s not all about survival, self-rescue is one of Bear’s key priorities.

Training complete, it’s time for the final challenge – You’ll be dropped off by 4x4 away from any form of civilisation and from then on, you are on foot as a team with no instructor support. You’ll need to head up in to the mountains where your survival adventure begins. Your aim - to cross the mountain range, summit the highest mountain in Alladale and make it back down safely. Remember, reaching the summit is only half the challenge. Along the journey you’ll need to set up a survival camp, forage for food, prepare and cook wild food, cross rivers, climb, scramble, raft, rappel, zip line across a high gorge and if you get back down in time, you’ll be rescued with an exciting, dynamic extraction.

These are just some of the many activities undertaken during your survival course:

  • Cross the high mountain range
  • Descend a river gorge
  • Abseil down a waterfall
  • Embark on a raft river journey
  • Skin and gut wild food
  • Wild camp in the Glen
  • Put into practice essential survival skills
  • Cross a gorge by rope Tyrolean traverse
  • Dynamic extraction
From start to finish the Bear Grylls team were fantastic. They were prompt and organised. Made the team feel at ease for a very daunting challenge. Supported us whilst giving us the freedom to learn and grow. They were extremely knowledgeable and supportive and I would 100% recommend them in the future.

"The 5 day extreme survival skills was incredible. It was the hardest thing I have done and I was pushed out of my comfort zone while developing new skills and friends for life. The instructors are incredible and the range of activities was fantastic. I can't recommend this highly enough if you want to learn new skills, push yourself and have a hard but incredibly rewarding time."

Alladale Wilderness Reserve, Scottish Highlands

Situated in the heart of the rugged highlands, the Alladale reserve is a privately owned estate, managed to restore the territory to its natural state through the reintroduction of tree cover and wildlife, and the encouragement of biodiversity. It’s a tough, diverse location with rolling mountains and glens, and super rugged terrain. The weather is as varied as the landscape, and experiencing four seasons in one day is common – the perfect way to prepare for a survival scenario.

These items will all help you to survive! Please note, all of the clothing and equipment that you bring must be appropriate to the environment and the time of year. This is just a guide and you may not require all the kit. Your instructors will let you know what to take out into the wilderness on arrival-any extra kit can be secured at base camp.

…and don't forget a bag full of positive attitude!
