Learn the ultimate in self-rescue skills from the world’s most recognized face of survival and outdoor adventure. The Bear Grylls Survival Academy is a rare chance for a lucky few outdoor enthusiasts from around the globe to learn Bear’s extreme survival techniques. Launched in November 2012 the Bear Grylls Survival Academy was quick to announce an addition to its course structure, a 24 Hour Family Course designed to inspire fathers and sons, mothers and daughters alike. The course is written and designed by Bear and his close team of experts; it’s delivered by a range of their hand picked instructors.
The 24 Hour Family Course will comprise of a combination of survival skills and adventure tasks designed to put the participants to the test. The courses will run in various locations in the UK across varied woodland, heathland and water terrain. Techniques taught will include learning how to build and light a fire, how to navigate at night, best ways to use a knife for survival, foraging for grubs and rodents, building a shelter, extreme weather survival and river/lake crossings. On day two of the course the participants will epitomise Bear’s ethos of self-rescue by crossing difficult and challenging terrain back to captivity. The Academy has been designed for enthusiastic children (aged 9-17yrs) to be accompanied by a parent or willing adult (age 18yrs and over) by Bear Grylls and will be run by his close team of highly trained experts. It is the perfect opportunity to bring family members together to share a truly memorable and fun experience.
Bear Grylls has become known around the world as the most recognized face of survival and outdoor adventure, with experience gained during his seven seasons of Man vs. Wild/Born Survivor and the many skills learnt from his time with the British Reserve Special Forces.

About the courses:
- The Bear Grylls Survival Academy 24 Hour Family Courses will run from midday – midday
- All meals, selected kit & accommodation included during the course
- Limited to 16 places (8 Pairs)
- Cost is £398 GBP for two places child & adult, children must be aged between 9-17 years and both parties must be physically active (£199 per person)
- Bear Grylls Survival Academy are reserving 1 placement per course for an adult with 2 children between 9-17yrs. Places are strictly limited, please ask a member of the team for current availability and pricing.
- On completion of the course participants will receive a Bear Grylls Survival Academy badge and certificate
Dartmoor – South West
The Bear Grylls Survival Academy 24 hour Family Course on Dartmoor is located in one of the most challenging locations in the UK. Open, rolling moor land, rugged high tors, fast flowing rivers and pepper potted with challenging and intimidating crags. With its own micro climate, Dartmoor can be beautiful but also, a very brutal environment making this course location perfect for the more daring participants.
The South Downs – Nr London
The Bear Grylls Survival Academy 24 hour Family Course in the South Downs is located approximately 50 minutes by train, from London. It boasts dense woodland, incorporating rivers, lakes and steep, difficult ground.
The Brecon Beacons – South Wales
The Bear Grylls Survival Academy 24 hour Family Course in South Wales is located within the Brecon Beacons. Close to Pen y Fan (The highest mountain in South Wales) this area of woodland, fast rivers, gorges and rock faces make it the ideal spot for an Academy. The terrain is super tough with water obstacles and high difficult ground being a key part of the challenge.
As you would expect, the Bear Grylls Survival Academy is challenging both mentally and physically. So, in order to get the most out of the course, applicants should be fit and healthy.
These items listed will all help you to survive! Please note, all of the clothing and equipment that you bring must be appropriate to the environment and the time of year.
Please Arrive Wearing:
- Robust Mountain Boots or Shoes
- Good walking/trekking socks
- Base layer, mid layer and outer (ie t shirt or wicking top and bottoms, long sleeved top, jumper/fleece or jacket)
- Cotton Outdoor Trousers
In a Duffle bag/Ruck sack please bring with you:
- Extra Fleece/Warm Jumper
- Gloves and Hat
- Water and windproof trousers and jacket
- Swimming shorts/Costume
- Personal medication
- x1 pair of spare Socks and x1 Underwear
Separate but in the same bag:
- Spare clean T-Shirt and Jumper/Fleece
- Spare Trousers
- x1 pair of spare Sock and x1 Underwear
- Wash bag and Towel
- Camera (in a waterproof bag)
And a large bag of enthusiasm and smiles!!!

- Head torch
- Sleeping mat
- Four season sleeping bag

Bear Grylls Survival Academy 24hr Family Survival course costs from £398 for a pair comprising of 1 adult and 1 child. Prices are inclusive of accommodation and meals but exclude flights and transfers.
